The thread over at gm-volt.com is getting pretty big, and no one can be expected to read the thing from the start anymore, so I figured I'd create a blog to chunk up announcements and make things more readable. I'll still probably post over there in addition to this blog, at least for a while until people start checking here.
A couple of people have been wondering how the Electric Miles per Day achievement is calculated, and the answer used to simply be your last reading for the day minus your first reading for the day. However, that wasn't really optimal, since you didn't really get a full 24 hours to log the achivement. I finally sat down tonight and wrote the code to look in any 24 hour period, so if you've gained any miles for this achievement today that's why! Let me know if you still think you're missing any miles.
PS - If you're out there, WATT UP, I'd love to hear about how you got your 212 miles... as far as I can tell there's no shenanigans in there... :)
Mike, I think it's easy to rack up the electric miles by dropping into MM on a long drive. I did this the other day. When I got down to 10% SOC, I kicked it into MM for about 10 miles, then back to normal. That got me about 80 miles on electric for the day, though only 40 of them were sourced from the grid. I suspect that WATT UP did something similar.
ReplyDeleteI did hear from WATT UP (he had trouble posting earlier, maybe he'll try again), and he says he went on a marathon session of driving 50 miles/charging at 240V. I don't really have a reason to doubt him, but I think you're correct that the achievement can be gamed using MM. I'm not sure there's any way for me to filter it out.
ReplyDeleteChris and Mike,
ReplyDeleteI did not use MM to rack up the electric miles. Just charge and drive til the charge is gone, charge some more and drive some more. I don't think I have ever use MM in my Volt. It uses too much gas. I got nearly 5200 miles on the Volt and only 250 or so have been using gas. Most of that was in the winter when the battery range was reduced and the ICE started on it own several times.

Awesome, Mike. You must have a lot of Level2 charge stations at your disposal. Or you're making lots of round trips in a single day. :-)
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteI's afraid it is just a lot of round trips in a single day using the same level 2 charger. Start with a charged up battery at midnight, drive a couple hours being careful to end up back at the house at the end of a 50 mile charge, charge for four hours. Repeat until midnight comes around again.
